How it all started...
Arturo and his brother, Roberto "Beto" Guerrero, purchased 75 acres of farm land together in 1997 on which they planted and cultivated several varieties of cherries, apples, peaches, nectarines, and pears. Their operation came to be known as "ACMA Orchards" for Beto's two daughters, Adriana Cristina and Melani Andrea (now 21 and 19). A decade later, the brothers decided to subdivide their 75 acres into three parcels. They sold one parcel to their father, Roberto Guerrero Sr., who had dreamt of owning an orchard since he was a young man. Roberto Sr. now lives out that dream farming R&P Guerrero Orchards, named for himself and his beloved wife of 46 years, Petra. Beto retained the second parcel and continues to farm ACMA Orchards. Arturo took possession of the adjacent third parcel, 35 acres of bare land, which he, his wife, Anne, and their three boys, Andy, Alec, and Adam, will soon begin planting and cultivating together as a family. Their new venture has taken the name of "AG Family Farm."
What's happening now...
Arturo, who previously held a full-time position as a Juvenile Probation Counselor with Chelan County (yes, in addition to his harvest responsibilities!), has become a full-time orchardist following a layoff from his former employer in November of 2009. He intends to start planting the "AG Family Farm" trees next spring - stay tuned for specifics on crops to come! In the meantime, he is devoting his energies and attention to helping his father farm R&P Guerrero Orchards and to helping his brother farm ACMA Orchards. Anne and the boys are taking on a more visible role this summer, accompanying Arturo to Seattle-area farmers markets and helping him sell the produce. The hope is that this will be a fun and educational business experience for the boys. It's exciting to see their interest in family farming blossom!
What we're looking forward to...
We dream. We hope. We pray and leave the outcome to God. We have a vision of growing as a business to the point where we can provide jobs and income for other people in this tough economy. Within the next few years, we'd like to relocate from our present home in Wenatchee and live on the Quincy land. Our goal is to do it DEBT FREE. We will be updating plans on our website as we pray through them and as the Lord directs our steps...
